Chartered in 1763, farming is still an important part of the Bolton lifestyle. Although farms are now joined by single family homes, the rural ambience of the town prevails. The majority of Bolton's 1,000 residents live within a 20 to 30 minute drive to employment and other services. Located on Route 2, I-89 runs parallel to the State highway and can be accessed at Richmond and Waterbury.

The easternmost town of Chittenden County, Bolton is nestled in the foothills of Mt. Mansfield, a prime location for those who love the outdoors. Bolton Valley Holiday Resort's proximity to Burlington makes it a popular day-trip as it beckons skiers from all over the region. Golf enthusiasts can hit a few buckets of balls at the Bolton Driving Range or play a full game at the West Bolton Golf Course. Recreation opportunities for hikers and fishermen abound. A scenic portion of the Long Trail intersects the township as it wends its way north. Fishermen are drawn to the Winooski River for Rainbow Trout, a spectacular aerial performer.
